The UCLA Cycling Team is for anyone who is passionate about competitive and recreational cycling. We strive to support cycling as a means of transportation, fitness and recreation. Whether you ride a mountain or road bike, whether your passion is participating in your first century ride or high level competition you will find a home with the UCLA cycling team. ###Team History: The UCLA cycling team was started over 20 years ago and over the decades the team has had many great successes. Some race highlights include Keith Henderson who won Collegiate Road Nationals Criterium in 1996 and Lane Packwood who won the same race the following year. Several years later, in 2001, Alex Smith won the Collegiate Nationals road race. Former UCLA team member Bernard Van Ulden has been racing professionally since 2004 and is now a member of the Domestic Pro Team Jelly Belly. The UCLA cycling team has seen hundreds of graduate and undergraduates excel in academics and move on to prestigious careers. ###Race Team: Our racing team focuses on the Collegiate season which includes a road, mountain bike, track, and cyclocross competition. Currently most of our members focus on the road season but we encourage members to race the others as well. To find out more about collegiate racing click on the WCCC logo. Although most of us focus on the collegiate races many of our members also race for additional local teams and complete in USCF races. Members of our team also participate in organized cycling events such as century rides or the aids life cycle. ###Recreation Members: This year we would like start a recreation team for those who are interested in and passionate about cycling, but perhaps not interested in racing. A recreation member might be someone who enjoys the challenges of century rides or perhaps just wants to find a group of people to join them for a cruiser ride down to the beach. We are currently looking for someone to take on the roll of recreation member captain. This person would be responsible for frequently posting recreation rides and occasionally finding events such as charity or century rides for recreation members to participate in. This position can be held by any ucla undergrad, graduate, faculty or staff. If you think you many be interested in helping us get a recreation team up and running please contact the team president. ###What to expect as a member: Currently the team is composed of about half graduate and half undergraduate students, with a handful of faculty, staff and alumni. We typically meet to ride in the morning. Most rides will start in Brentwood at 7am on week days and later on weekends. As a member you can expect to receive support from the team in the form of discounts on cycling products, discounted team clothing, covered race entry fees for collegiate events and often free transport and housing when traveling to collegiate events.
